Piracy

What is this stuff?

In the golden age of piracy, between 1650 and 1730, piracy at sea was a fascinating mix of daring brigandage and unspoken rules. According to historian Hubert Deschamps, piracy was defined as brigandage by sea. Impetuous adventurers, pirates attacked merchant ships to seize glittering treasures and precious cargoes.

Although pirates sometimes respected lives and personal property, the era was not without cruelty, especially among the most famous like Blackbeard. Their main objective was the ship and its cargo, but confrontations could be violent and ruthless. An investigation could even be carried out to verify the legitimacy of the capture, and goods were returned if the rules of piracy were not respected.

In short, sea piracy was a world of thrilling adventure, where bravery mingled with cruelty, with only partial respect for the rules between these outlaws of the waves!
